The Coach Beth Wing Court was dedicated in the Douglas E. Bond Gymnasium on Thursday night at Sound Christian Academy in Tacoma.
Beth was the athletic director and girls basketball coach at then-Tacoma Baptist from 2015-21, helping mentor and impact countless students both on the court of play and spiritually off the court.
Beth helped lead Sound Christian Academy through the COVID-19 pandemic and was a driving force in helping the school remain open except for in-person learning throughout the pandemic.
“The legacy of the TBS Crusaders in competitive athletics continues today as SCA Lions. We have a rich history of character-building, championship sports programs and caring, Christ-centered coaches. Perhaps no one embodied that heritage more than Beth Wing. She was a phenomenon. A Spirit-filled, God-gifted, inspirational force of nature. Coach Wing mentored students and motivated athletes, while engaging a community of parents,” – statement from current SCA Athletic Director Dwayne Beavers.
The presentation featured an alumni letter from 2021 graduate Katie Tonsager read by ’21 alum Evan Arbogast and a speech by ’17 alum Rachel Van Liew. Board of Directors member Courtney McDaniel made a statement, Dwayne Beavers reminded the crowd of everything Beth accomplished in her time in Tacoma, Board of Directors chairperson Carrie Jo Timmer presented Beth with a plaque and former Board of Directors chair Craig Kessel closed us with prayer.
It was a fantastic night and we are so thankful for Beth’s contributions to our community. We wish her continued success at her new school in Spokane. It was also great to see so many alumni.
