Carri Jo Timmer
Board Chair

Carri Jo Timmer DO, is a Family Medicine Physician and Residency Program Director for Community Health Care. She enjoys caring for whole families from pre-conception to death, including delivering babies while teaching younger doctors to do the same.
Her husband, Caleb, graduated from Tacoma Baptist in 2001, and after meeting through his sister, they have been married since 2007. They have four children, all of which are enrolled at SCA. Together, Caleb and Carri Jo lead medical mission trips to Myanmar and are active members of Puget Sound Foursquare. Carri Jo has been an active volunteer at SCA, including Vice President of the Parent Volunteer Network.
Li Er Hanson
Board Member

Li Er Hanson grew up in Singapore before coming to the United States to attend college at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She has had a varied career in banking and consulting, and including serving together with her husband, Darran, as the founding business manager and science teacher for a Christian school in North Carolina. They have three children, 18, 21 and 24, who have attended K-12 public and private boarding and day schools, both here and in Singapore, including one who was homeschooled for a couple of years.
Having experienced a variety of educational settings as an administrator, teacher and parent, Li Er enjoys thinking about the different ways in which children learn and how schools function. Currently, she works for a boutique asset management firm headquartered in the Bay Area. In her role on the SCA Board, she is excited to serve alongside her colleagues by sharing her skills in finance and business administration, and her passion for education, in a way that aligns with the needs and culture of a faith-based school community.
The Hanson family have attended Northwest Church in Federal Way since 2007 where Li Er has served as a small group leader, in Sunday School, AWANA and discipleship mentoring.
Terry Franzen
Board Member

Terry is the Executive Account Manager for 3M Company. He has been involved in the office products industry for 41 years. “God has blessed me with the opportunity to work for great companies and with wonderful people,” he said.
Terry attends Sunset Bible Church with his spouse Deborah. They have four adult children: Joshua, Matthew, Catherine and Andrew.
“I wanted to join the board because of God’s leading,” Terry said. “I believe in the mission of Sound Christian Academy. I wanted to serve, to hopefully, prayerfully, make a positive impact, to God’s glory.”
Ryan Frederick
Board Member

Ryan is a full-time author and content producer for his marriage and family ministry and also serves as the Acquisitions Editor for Lion Press, his local publishing company.
Previously he spent four years doing Energy Conservation Resource Management and Design and Construction Management for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He also ran a web and marketing business for 10 years.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Marketing from the University of Washington, and is currently studying for a Masters of Religion degree at Westminster Theological Seminary.
He and his wife Selena attend the Evangelical Reformed Church in Tacoma. They have four children: Dela, Clementine, Louisa and Sunny.
“As someone who was born, raised, and spent (nearly) all my life in Tacoma, I have a great desire to see good, solid Christian education in our community, which we know and love,” Ryan said.
Seongbae Kim
Board Member

Seongbae is an independent financial advisor and has spent the last 12 years helping his clients pursue their financial goals through investments and insurance.
He is an elder at Sunset Bible Church in Tacoma, having attended for 11 years.
He and his wife, Sora, have a 5-year-old daughter, Grace, who is in kindergarten at SCA.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Pacific Lutheran University (1997), a Master’s of Education from Northwestern State University (2007) and a Master’s of Business Administration from Duke University (2010).
“I have a heart for children and guiding them to become who their loving Creator designed them to be,” he said.
Larry Lewien
Board Member

Larry serves as the Senior Manager of Grant and Contract Services at World Vision. He is a member and a Welcome Director at New Life Foursquare Church in University Place. He earned his BA in Music Education in 1995 from Western Washington University and his MBA of Business in 2007 from UW Tacoma. Larry and his wife have two children at SCA.
Neal Eifling
Board Member

Neal is a licensed Mortgage Broker and owner of Best Way Lending, Inc. since 2009. He serves people throughout Washington state with mortgage financing needs, information, and guidance. He and his wife, Angie, married in March of 2003, live in Gig Harbor and have a son who is a current SCA student. They enjoy spending time together as a family and serving others. Neal enjoys getting to know and hanging out with people, working out, returning order around the house and yard, and last but not least, is a loyal dog lover!
Heather Wait
Board Member

Heather is the Executive Pastor at Puget Sound Foursquare, having held the position for nine years.
In her role, she oversees all ministries at the church, including women’s ministry and has a passion for outreach and collaboration with partners in Tacoma.
“My life in Christ has determined every step I’ve made, especially since my mid-20s,” Heather said. “He is my redeemer, restorer, hope, and savior. He has continually lifted my gaze to Him, given me courage, perseverance and strength. I cannot fathom life without Him at the center.”
She has been married to her husband, Dave, for 26 years and they have two children – Malia, 24, and Makai, 21.
Ron Nelson
Board Member

Ron is the Chief Financial Officer at Sound Christian Academy and has served on the board twice, from 2004-21 and from 2022-current.
He has a background in finance and business and is an active member of the Evangelical Reformed Church.
